š Division 1
Bonnies drop. Brown ascends.
St. Bonaventure stays unbeatenābut barely. They escaped a scrappy Walsh side despite Walsh slotting six penalty kicks, several from 40+ meters out.
Brown, meanwhile, hit all the right notes in their electric win over Dartmouth last week. They were rewarded with the #1 spot in this weekās Coaches Poll.
Next up: St. Bonaventure has the weekend off. Brown gears up for a showdown with American International.
Fun Fact: We see you, Quinn Miller. The former South Meck and Charlotte Cardinals (NC) standout has been climbing the depth chart as a freshman at Brownāone of the first forwards off the bench already. Well done.
š Division 2
IUP holds firm at #1
IUP is steamrolling everyone in sight. Their most recent outing was a 66ā7 blowout of John Carroll on September 27, with several young Hawks scoring their first collegiate tries.
Their only blemish this year came against a strong D1 Wheeling side back in Augustābut they bounced back immediately, crushing reigning D3 champs Slippery Rock 33ā5. That result showed just how wide the gap is between divisions.
Next up: IUP vs Kent State.
š Division 1-AA
Kentucky rocking
Kentucky leads the pack in this weekās Coaches Pollāand for good reason. Their only loss came in a gritty 24ā20 battle with Indiana, where they clawed back from a 17ā3 deficit before falling just short. The Wildcats rebounded the following week with a dominant 57ā19 win over Cincinnati and now head to Alabama looking to lock in a top playoff seed. Alabama is fighting for its playoffs hopes, so expect a fire-in-the-belly effort from them.
Fun Fact: A quick glance at Kentuckyās roster reveals two St. Ignatius (OH) alumsāCollin Spellacy (2025) and Charlie Sizemore (2024)āboth earning varsity jerseys. Well done! šŖ
š Division 3
Slippery Rock still the boss
Slippery Rock has sat atop the D3 Coaches Poll all fallāthanks to blowout wins, week after week. Their lone loss came against IUP, a D2 side.
Next up: Slippery Rock faces Franciscan University this weekend. The Barons have been hammering opponents lately and feature a sharp back line, so this should be a proper test. Itās usually a feisty matchupāand while Slippery Rockās had Franciscanās number in recent years, theyād be wise not to underestimate them. Otherwise, they might⦠slip ā¦in the rankings. (Sorry, had to.)
šØ Friday Night Rugby ā Texas Clash
We love that National Collegiate Rugby makes a big deal out of Friday Night Rugby. Itās fun, the video quality is typically great, and theyāve been consistent about it.
Last week was a nail-biting 36-36 draw between Queens and Wheeling.
This week the show heads to Texas for a battle between Texas State and Sam Houston.
Sam Houston might come in as the favorite, but the rivalry between these schools runs deep, and the Bobcats will have no shortage of motivation.

āļøWest Coast Sevens ā Round 2
Adios, Los Angeles. Hello, Stanford!
West Coast Sevens heads north this weekend for its NorCal leg. The LA stop was a banger, and weāre expecting more of the same up at Stanford. Several teams return from the first weekend, joined by a few fresh NorCal squads ready to mix it up.
š« High School boys Division
The High School division looks completely different from LA, with only Cathedral Catholic returning to the bracket. Theyāll be joined by the San Mateo Wolverines, Carmichael, St. Ignatius (CA), and Mother Lode.
š Game to watch:
Cathedral Catholic vs San Mateo Wolverines
We already know how dangerous Cathedral can be. The Wolverines bring a strong 15s pedigree and plenty of raw athleticismāthis one should be a fun clash.
š Menās College Bracket
The Menās College bracket features Cal, UCLA, and USD returningājoined this time by Grand Canyon U, Oregon, and of course Stanford.
š Game to watch:
UCLA vs Cal
Yeah, this pickās a bit of a cheatātheyāll only square off if both reach the final. But after what we saw in LA, a rematch might just be in the cards.
š 4 Players to Watch
These dudes stood out in LA. Assuming theyāre all making the trip to Stanford, keep an eye on these talented fellas:
Solomon Williams (Cal)
Sam Reade (UCLA)
Chase Basson (USD)
Reese Reiter (Cathedral Catholic)

āļøGolden Boot Alert:
Taku Musingwini was lethal from the tee in Wheelingās draw with Queens last week.
He split the posts from nearly every angle and distance. Anytime Queens gave up an infraction inside their own half, you could just about chalk up 3 points.
Takuās got easy confidence and some of the cleanest kicking mechanics weāve seen all year. Wheeling has an ace up their sleeve with this guy.

Think you know rugby? Prove it!
Who was the first USA Menās player to score a try against the All Blacks in a 15s test match?

Oddball musings, induced by borderline hypothermia.
š The Dartmouth forward pack is gigantic. That is all. Thanks for your attention to this matter.
š There are plenty of international students earning starting spots across college rugby. Makes senseāwho wouldnāt want a couple South African bruisers in the lineup? But it makes me wonder: could it be slowing the development of American players? Not saying it should change⦠just an observation.
š Behind every rugby player are parents who decided to give this crazy game a chance and trusted their kid would come out better for it.
They deserve a shout out. Hereās to you, parents!š»
Thatās a wrap, gang!
Next week weāll have more dope rugby stuff to share with you; scores, highlights, stories⦠all the goods.
If you like this, share it with your friends!
Be well, ruck with gusto, and may your compression shorts always stay in place.
