Hough (NC) gets rocking with big win.

Game Recap: South Meck vs Hough January 9th, 2025

The Hough boys put together a solid game against a very strong South Meck squad this Thursday.

After having only one game under their belt, it was fair to wonder if Hough was ready to play a big, physical team like South Meck, which we covered here.

But Hough WAS ready.

Hough has a brisk style of play, highlighted by quick thinking from their key decision makers. And while South Meck’s size posed a challenge to their forward pack and center backs, the Hough boys proved more than capable of bringing down the ball carrier and sticking to their structure.

South Meck was down 3 starters in this game, but Coach Rick Norvell wasn’t about to make any excuses, saying: “We had 2 offsides penalties inside the 22 that led to tries for Hough. Our tackling wasn’t great either. On offense, we had guys breaking the line but didn’t bring enough support.”

Overall, Hough was able to maintain a consistent attack and capitalize on South Meck’s mistakes, with tries scored by Porter Kuebler, Kai Campbell, Andre Brown, CJ Baker, and Alai Uaisele.

Originally this game was to be played today, Friday, but the weather forecast forced a schedule change and the game was held a day earlier. So while it may have been a little colder than NC is used to, at least snow didn’t hinder the game at all. Hough Coach Bruce Colson summed it up: “It was cold but not miserable. Some good rugby was able to be played by both sides.”

We have a feeling that we are going to see these two teams playing in a high stakes match later on this season. We’ll keep you posted.

Final Score: Hough 34 - 14 South Meck

What’s next?

Next week, Hough faces Ardrey Kell, which shouldn’t be a difficult match for them. South Meck on the other hand faces a suddenly competent Charlotte Catholic team. THAT will be the game to watch next week in NC.

How did we do?
