🏆 Falcons Soar to States

Torrey Pines 43 — 13 Orange Lutheran
The Falcons are going to the California State Final!
Time for us to eat some crow. We didn’t see this coming. When we first looked at the inaugural Premier League brackets, we thought Torrey Pines might struggle in a stacked South division. Cathedral Catholic had a strong roster, La Costa Canyon felt like a threat.
But lo and behold, it was the scrappy, tenacious Falcons who ran the table in remarkable fashion and now find themselves in a familiar spot: SoCal champions.
How silly of us to doubt them. They just get things done, no matter the obstacle. Even a drama-laden week with questions about whether a final was actually going to happen couldn’t derail these lads’ focus. Well done, boys—you earned it. 🫡
Here’s what Head Coach Matty Sandoval had to say after the SoCal Final:
“The messiness of this final took place off the pitch. When it came time to boot up, my group was laser focused. These boys are young, but tough and talented. And they’re still humble enough to listen. So far that recipe has sorted our opposition. Let’s see if it holds for one more game in the state final.”

All solid matchups—all happening this weekend:
ND De La Salette (IL) vs St. Ignatius (OH)
A rematch of last year’s nationals semifinal, we’ve been looking forward to this one since we first spotted it on the calendar.
St. Ignatius won last time they met and went on to capture a national title. La Salette finished third at nationals in 2025 and impressed with their cohesion and tenacity throughout the tournament.
Both teams have 2025 state titles under their belt as well.
The La Salette Lions haven’t seen the pitch yet, while the Wildcats bagged two wins in their opening weekend.
With nationals pedigree on both sides, this Midwest battle is a certified banger. Can’t-miss rugby.
Greenwich (CT) vs Chaminade (NY)
And the Northeast finally feels alive now…
Greenwich, the reigning CT state champs, open their season against the upstart Chaminade Flyers—a program that many say is on the path to becoming a regional force. Last year, the Flyers put together a string of impressive results, backed by a young, talented squad. Greenwich, meanwhile, had their ups and downs throughout the 2025 season before returning from nationals to clinch a 12th (!) state title.
Will there be rust from these two after dealing with an unforgiving winter? We shall see.
St. Martin’s (KS) vs Wichita (KS)
An intriguing battle between the three-peat Kansas champs and a young-ish club team looking to stamp their place in the Kansas hierarchy.
St. Martin’s showed their muscle in a commanding victory over club team Pendleton (IN) last week. Can they repeat that performance against a rising local club? Wichita has been busy already this young season, and their preseason victory over St. Thomas Aquinas (KS) turned heads. How will they fare against a Kingfishers squad that has recently dominated the state?
Here’s what St. Martin’s Head Coach John Prezzia had to say about this matchup:
“They’re a really well coached team with some good athletes that can go coast to coast in the blink of an eye, so we better stay within ourselves, win the physical battles, and tighten the screws slowly through 70 mins if we want to come out on top.”
🏟️ Tournament to track
Lindenwood hosts their annual tourney this weekend with a solid lineup of HS Boys teams. We’ll follow up after the event and see who crushed.

🏆NorCal School Final
St. Francis (CA) vs Rio Americano (CA) | March 7, 2pm PST
If you predicted this matchup for the NorCal final at the beginning of the season then go buy a lottery ticket—you oracle, you. Most people would have asked, “Rio who?”
Well, Rio Americano has crushed expectations this season and find themselves in a truly fascinating matchup against the reigning state champs, St. Francis.
St. Francis graduated many freakishly good athletes in the spring, but that hasn’t stopped them from putting together another run at the state title. Safe to say they’ve built plenty of depth. Their lone blemish in league play this season was a 21-31 loss to… Rio Americano. But that was several weeks ago, and the Lancers have since gone on a tear with wins over De La Salle, Jesuit, and St. Ignatius SF.
This rematch is for all the marbles, and a shot at Torrey Pines in the CA State Final.
Grab the popcorn.
Cavemen (UT) vs SAC Air (CA)
📺 Check the Riot Hub for the link later.
Cross-state clashes get us excited. This one is shaping up to be a cracker. Cavemen might be early favorites due to their recent nationals appearance and top Goff ranking. But don’t sleep on SAC Air. We’ve been tracking their progress this year and they quietly look like a contender nobody knows about yet. Sure, they’ve dropped a couple of games, but consider this: one of those losses was a 19-5 result to Granite Bay—one of the most fearsome clubs in NorCal.
These are both top 50 clubs according to Rugby Riot and Goff. We expect fireworks in Utah.

Charlotte Cardinals (NC) vs Doylestown (PA)
⌚️Saturday, March 7 | 6PM EST
📺 Watch it here
This East Coast club clash became very interesting after Doylestown clobbered Xavier (NY) last week. We should caveat that result slightly—Xavier hadn’t had an outdoor practice yet this winter. But it’s worth asking: didn’t DTown have a lousy winter like the rest of the Northeast? They also beat Fort Hunt handily the week before, and they’re the reigning PA state champs.
Is this the game that they plant their flag in the upper echelon of national contenders?
The Cardinals, meanwhile, are a bonafide national contender with a loaded roster. Their recent victory over Okapi (FL) showed that they can handle reigning state champs and poor weather at the same time.
We’re excited to see:
The battle between these forward packs will be colossal, as both love to play up-tempo, front-foot rugby. But the matchup in the backfield is equally intriguing. Luke Zehmke (10) and Max Colson (15) form the two-headed monster guiding the Cardinals’ attack, while Jackson Reilly (9), Louie Cipollo (10), Liam Hooey (12), and Nick Miletto (13) headline a ferocious crew of 11th graders in Doylestown’s backline. Both sides have the ability to pound the rock or fling it around to their playmakers.
🎙️ Will Hooley will be on the mic for this one. Boom 💥
